Chocolate Revel Bars

1 cup butter, softened

2 cups packed brown sugar

1 teaspoon baking soda

2 eggs

2 teaspoons vanilla

2 cups flour

3 cups rolled oats

1 cups semisweet chocolate chips

1 14 oz can sweetened condensed milk

cup chopped walnuts or pecans

2 teaspoons vanilla



  1. Heat oven to 350F. 

  2. Set aside 2 tablespoons of the butter

  3. In a bowl beat remaining butter with an electric mixer for 30 seconds. 

  4. Add brown sugar and soda. Beat until combined, scraping sides of bowl.

  5. Beat in 2 eggs and 2 teaspoons of vanilla.

  6. Beat in as much of the flour as you can with the mixer; stir in remaining flour, rolled oats and nuts.

  7. For filling, in a medium saucepan combine reserved butter, chocolate chips and condensed milk.
    Cook and stir over very low heat just until chocolate is melted. 
    Remove from heat.
    Stir in nuts and 2 teaspoons of vanilla.

  8. Press two-thirds of the rolled oat mixture into the bottom of an ungreased 15 x 10 baking pan.

  9. Spread filling evenly over the oat mixture.

  10. Dot remaining third of oat mixture on top of the filling.

  11. Bake in preheated oven about 25 minutes or until top is lightly browned (chocolate filling will still look moist.

  12. Cool on a wire rack, then cut into bars.

To store, cover and chill for up to three days or freeze for up to 1 month.
