Buckwheat Cakes


1 cake yeast

1/2 cup lukewarm water

2 cups cold water

1 cup sifted flour

2 cups of buckwheat flour

1 1/2 tsp salt

1 tbsp molassas

1 tsp soda

1/2 cup hot water

4 tbsp melted butter


Night Before

Dissolve yeast in 1/2 cup lukewarm water. Add 2 cups of cold water.

Sift white and buckwheat flour and salt together; add to yeast.

Cover and let stand in a cool place over night.


Blend in molasses and soda (which has been dissolved in hot water).

Stir in melted butter.

Fry and serve.
